Blackberry Stout - Fruited Dry Stout by Soul Barrel Brewing

Dark, roasty and just fruity enough to keep things interesting, Soul Barrel Blackberry Stout is a fruited dry stout from one of the Cape Winelands’ most exciting independent breweries.

Soul Barrel has built its reputation around expressive, locally driven beers, and this is a cracking example of what happens when you give a classic dark beer a little fruit-powered mischief.

Rather than turning the beer into a sweet, jammy dessert stout, blackberry adds a fresh dark-fruit character to the roasted malt base. The result remains unmistakably stout: dry, creamy and toasty, but with a juicy blackberry edge cutting through all that malt.

Basically, stout put on its going-out clothes.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Deep brown to near-black with a creamy tan head.

Nose: Roasted malt, toasted grain and cocoa alongside fresh blackberry and darker berry notes.

Palate: Dry and creamy with roasted malt, gentle coffee and cocoa flavours, followed by blackberry fruitiness that lifts the palate rather than overwhelming it. Contemporary tasting notes describe it as particularly dry, creamy, toasty and fruity with hints of blackberry.

Finish: Clean and relatively dry, with lingering roasted malt and a subtle dark-fruit character.
