Père Anselme La Fiole du Pape Châteauneuf-du-Pape NV is a distinguished red wine from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation in the Southern Rhône Valley, France. Introduced in 1952 by Charles Brotte, this wine is renowned for its unique, twisted bottle design, symbolizing the gnarled vines of the region shaped by the Mistral winds.

This non-vintage blend combines Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault, sourced from multiple vintages to ensure a consistent and approachable profile. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately, with a 15-day maceration on the lees in stainless steel vats at 30°C. Following fermentation in concrete tanks over two months and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in large oak casks for 1 to 5 years, resulting in an average age of 3.5 years upon bottling.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Aromatic bouquet of ripe berries, morello cherry, warm spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), truffles, game, and cedar.

Palate: Elegant and well-balanced, featuring mature flavors of leather, spiced forest fruits, and roasted game. The wine is fleshy and powerful, with long-lasting aromas and a persistent finish.

Food Pairing: This wine pairs beautifully with beef tartare, wild boar in sauce, moussaka, wild mushroom risotto, blue cheeses, or desserts like chocolate fondant with raspberry coulis or a spicy apple blackberry pie.

Accolades:

89 pointsWine Advocate: "Medium-bodied, nicely textured and easygoing, it’s a solid, Provencal effort to enjoy over the coming 4-5 years".
