Alien Hop Addiction from Cape Town’s Afro Caribbean Brewing Company is a proper old-school West Coast IPA — bitter, resinous, dank and absolutely not interested in being mistaken for fruit juice.

Now in its third iteration, Alien Hop Addiction brings together Mosaic, Simcoe, Columbus and Nelson Sauvin for a massive hit of pine, resin, dank hops and distinctive white-grape character. At 6.2% ABV and a whopping 82 IBUs, this isn't the beer you give someone who says, "I don't really like bitter beers."

This is one for the hop heads.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Clear golden to light amber with a firm white head.

Nose: Intensely hop-driven with pine needles, resin, dank herbal notes and citrus, alongside touches of tropical fruit and white grape.

Palate: Bold and bitter from the outset. Pine, grapefruit peel and sticky resin dominate, with Mosaic adding flashes of tropical fruit and Nelson Sauvin contributing its characteristic grape-like edge. A lean pale-malt backbone keeps the hops firmly in charge.

Finish: Long, dry and unapologetically bitter, leaving behind lingering pine, citrus peel and resin.
