Ardbeg Spectacular

The limited release for 2024's Ardbeg Day, Ardbeg Spectacular was matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and port wine casks, a first for the distillery.

Ardbeg’s Spectacular release marks the first time the distillery has matured its oily and heavily peated single malt in port casks. These rare port casks were used alongside ex-bourbon barrels, imparting aromas of praline, vetiver, lavender buds and toffee apple on the nose, complemented by notes of eucalyptus, mint choc chip, mossy peat smoke and worn leather. A real treat for Islay whisky fans.

Nose: Perfumed and aromatic with lavender and incense candles. Leather, almond nuttiness and a touch of wax. A splash of water opens things up revealing woodsmoke, damp peat moss, menthol and antique leather.

Palate: Salty and viscous with salty, savoury, smoky flavours; eucalyptus oil, salted caramel toffee, smoked pecan nuts, fragrant woodsmoke, creosote and tar. A background sweetness, like a smoky pear crumble and fudge.

Finish: Lingering aftertaste, more leather, salted caramel and a cooling mentholic sensation.
